I’m always on the lookout for a writing assignment that will lead me to discover a new neighborhood, better understand a particular culture, think more deeply about an issue, or learn something—whether it’s about life, literature, or even just lipstick. Most of my freelance work falls into the categories of travel writing, essays and book reviews, and, thanks to my on-staff work at several popular magazines, lifestyle articles. These are the topics that keep me fed, clothed, and, for the most part, out of trouble.
But I truly think of myself as a generalist, eager to write about anything if the subject interests me.
