A word of advice: be careful what you say around me. Be very careful. Otherwise, you might just end up as the inspiration for my next novel. But don’t worry. When I write about you—and I will!—I promise to be kind. In fact, I will follow the advice I gave in this guest post for the Women’s Fiction Writers, in which I describe how the youthful hijinks of the lovely lady shown here—my grandmother-in-law—inspired my current novel, The Ladies of Managua. And I’ll try to disguise you enough that readers won’t know right away that I’m telling your story. And who knows? Maybe I’ll stop plucking inspiration out of real life before I get to you. But probably not. Because truth is juicier than fiction!
